Free Comic Book Day

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

2007_04_30freecomics1.jpgThis Saturday, May 5th, is Free Comic Book Day, and comic shops everywhere will be giving away comic books for free.  Who can say no to free comics?

Here in Toronto, Chris from the Beguiling put together a mean collection of original comics called Comics Festival 2007 (shown here, with a cover by Bryan Lee O’Malley) featuring work from a venerable crapload of talented cartoonists and comics creators, including a short strip by yours truly.  And it’s totally free.

To celebrate, I’ll be at the Beguiling (601 Markham Street) on Saturday from 12-3pm with other artists whose work appears in the book including Kean Soo (Jellaby) and Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics) so come on by!  If not for me, then for free comics!

“venerable crapload” is the best phrase ever.

I will be dropping by with my mom!!
She’s in town that weekend, but doesn’t like comic books. But I’ve been missing out on free comics for one reason or another every year, and I finally have time that day—she just has to come along. She’ll probably like it when she gets there. I think she has a certain kind of comic book in mind that she really hates, but when she gets there she’ll remember that there are different types of comic books. That’s what free comic book day is for, it’s educational! For moms!
