Haiku Review: Art School Confidential

Saw despite bad press.
Dan Clowes should stick to comics.
Malkovich, though? Great.

As an aside: I primarily went to see this because it was screening at The Royal (Toronto’s oldest standing active movie theatre), which along with its sister theatres, will be closed at the end of the month.

I have lived in Toronto for 6 years and have witnessed the closing (and in some cases, destruction) of far too many old theatres.  I have a lot of memories of the Royal—the first movie I saw there was a print of the first Friday the 13th.  I saw ResFest screenings each year.  When you’re early for a movie, there’s nothing better than hopping across the street to Balfour Books for a quick browse.  And most importantly, where else in the city could I go to see old 3D movies (complete with paper glasses): Jaws 3, Flesh for Frankenstein, and Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder.

You win again, Multiplexes!

It’s too bad ASC was your last film there. I was really disappointed, too.

I did some research and found out that it was written as a 3d movie. I am starting to understand the method to the madness of leaving the liver(?) dangling on the spear tip in front of the audiences lap for the whole scene.

Ps. how did it exit his body in the first place?

Coincidentally I did a haiku review of Ghost World after I saw it in October 2001.

See you in court, Sonny.
