Mangled Metaphor

Thursday, August 26, 2004

The announcer on the CBC just blurted out the mother of all mixed metaphors while commentating on the Olympic triathlon:

Maybe he’s got another trick up his bag of cards

I tried searching for his name (to embarrass him fully) but no luck.

That seems positively Zapp Brannigan-esque in its terrible-ness.

If we can hit that bull’s-eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards… checkmate.

ahahaha. I love CBC radio because it’s not full of crap. But when they screw up it’s ten times more funny. =D

(random person who just found your blog. I googled the ghostbusters quote “Back off man, I’m a scientist.” and it came up.)

For my money, my own mother came up with the ultimate mixed metaphor, which blended so badly it created a whole new metaphor altogether, physical impossibility it may be:

“Like one hand washing its own back.”

Most idiotic comment from a CBC announcer so far during the Olympics- “the trampoline is very bouncy.”

I haven’t heard anything on the CBC but GLOBAL NEWS TONIGHT had this teaser a month ago:

“COMING UP tonight...Why is Orillia so pretty? Is Orillia *too* nice? Find out why Orillia is so pretty, on GLOBAL NEWS TONIGHT.”

????

LOL.

Heh… Finally some Olympic entertainment. I’d post a quote from Bob Costas but I think we’ve all heard too much of him already.

Watching the women’s volleyball final on the CBC and the announcer says, “And for the second Olympics in a row, the Russians have been comed-back-against.”

The hyphens are mine, because really, how do you write that?
