Moneymoneymoneymonnnney.  Money!

Friday, March 4, 2005

Adina has just challenged me to join her in Spend Nothing Week.  Money goes through me like… something that goes through another thing really fast and easily, so I’m all for curbing my spending habits.

And I like that it’s strictly about managing personal finances and not an anti-consumerism bender.

Adina’s Rules:
  1. Buy a week’s worth of bus tickets/tokens on Sunday night.
  2. Spend $40 dollars on groceries ($60 per couple)
  3. Bring lunches. Do not take cabs. Do not get your muckaluckachino at S*arB*cks.
  4. If there must be an exception, note it in advance)

5 days without spending money?  I think it should be easy… it’s the weekends that are trickiest.  This at least gives me an extra reason to buy groceries this weekend!

Who else is in?

Doesn’t it defeat the purpose by ‘stocking’ up for the winter? Not to say I wouldn’t do the same thing first too.

Well “stocking up” is limited to $40 worth of groceries.  It’s “Spend Nothing Week” not “Eat Nothing Week”

I would, but I need to buy groceries, and I have a serious hankering for crafting supplies… And I am a worthless materialist fool. Plus if I told my boyfriend, I’d have trouble stoping him from calling me a hippy, and them’s fighting words. I would stock up too, but I also think that’s kinda cheating. Maybe I’ll just try to buy less in general.

ooo’ i’m intrigued. i’m just mentally too tired to attempt it this week but i’m thinking maybe, next!?

er, have fun doing nothing.

I’m not sure man.  $40 worth of beer might not last a week.

Eva says:

I CAN’T, it’s Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroll up the rim at Tim Hortons and I’m tracking my winnings, so I need to keep buying! I’m going to make charts and graphs, and I need to buy a LOT of coffee to make it statistically significant!
Otherwise I’d be totally in, because I really need to learn to make my own lunch (and bring it WITH me, not leave it out on the counter at home)

p.s. i have to mention that several of the excuses posted for not participating seemed a little… uh… weak. i think you should try it anyway, even though you seem to think you can’t do it. damn the man!

p.p.s. no, i’m not a hippie.

I had to buy a load of furniture this month, so I’m kinda short on cash until the next pay packet lands in my account.  I meant to try and budget, but I’m already over, and I can see I’m going to have to tax somebody for a loan.  I suck at budgeting.
