Who Knows What Evil Blurks…

Thursday, November 25, 2004

I’m stealing this question from James.  Blurkers are visitors to a blog that leave no evidence: regular readers who remain in the shadows and don’t leave comments, or those who read via RSS and never actually come to the site to marvel at its design (it’s very bluey!).

So it’s time for the silent to speak up!  Give a shout if you’re a blurker, or an RSS reader, and, if you’ve also got a blog.

Yes, that’s me! I’m a blurker. I’m glad that someone’s got a name for my condition. Should it be blurkitis?

I’m afraid I still see websites as something that you look at, not something that you interact with. What’s wrong with me?! Help!

And, yes, I’ve got a kind of sort of blog/journal thing. Go see!

Joe says:

What’s “bluey” mean? Or is that some sort of blog terminology?

11-25-04 · 4:26 pm

Robot Johnny says:

Y’know… bluey.  Kinda like greeny or yellowy.

11-25-04 · 4:30 pm

Joe says:

That’s what I was thinking. Of course, I wasn’t thinking until I hit “post”.

pete says:

Yep, so I’m a blurker here.  Do contribute on some sites but I confess, I visit daily and haven’t left a trace.  Nice to read about illustration and comic related stuff in addition to the usual standards based stuff.

Keep it up.

stijn says:

guilty as charged. I stay updated with rss but I always read posts in their original form.

I’ve always been a bit of a quiet person though. I tend to forget were I posted a reply thus never really follow a discussion.

Lee says:

I read via an RSS reader on a Mac. Makes it easier to locate who has updated and when in an instant. Funny thing is that I come to your website when I’ve read the newsfeed anyways. Consider me a blurter. Funny stuff, great blog to read.

I confess I am a blurker too! all these years of thinking I knew my way around the ‘net, and I’ve only just discovered blogs (purely by accident and I can’t remember how)… Now I’m telling my friends about blogs and want one of my own!! NOt sure if it would be a wise idea though, since I ‘blurk’ at work…

Um, but can someone tell me what RSS is??

I lurk around message boards too… shameful, I know.

i suppose i’m a combo of a blurker and an RSS person. Ive been here before, and I believe I’ve even posted a comment before, but I normally read via RSS.

Guilty!

Always check out your feed with NetNewsWire on my Mac. I’ve been looking at your site for the last few years, and I thought it was a godsend when you put in RSS.

I do try and make it to the site every now and again though - I love the design and your fonts are great!

adina says:

I come to your blog regularly and rarely comment. But worse than that I often stare at the back of your head when you are at your computer and I am in the hallway.

Amber says:

It always takes me awhile to work up the nerve to leave comments on sites that I’m in awe of or inspired by.  Gee, I guess you could take that as a compliment!

Thanks for being inspiring smile

Oh god,(sniff) yes it’s true. I do, what’s the word? Blurk? I confess. I just like looking is all, is that all right? Just a peek, every now and then!? It’s the pretty pictures, they get me in. Oh why, why am I so weak? Sigh.....well, it feels good to get that off my chest at last. I must go now. I’ve goats to fuck.

I’m a bit of a lurker...someday I might have someone set up my own little spot at http://www.watchthefireworks.com does that domain inspire any designers out there?

divya says:

I am one too! But I loved ur previous design a lot. This looks kinda kitschy =|
I adore ur illustrations and other works u put up on ur other site...lovely!

BRo says:

Ok, so I’m a blurker… glad we finally cleared that up.

Love the site though, actually inspired me to go back to doing more graphic design and start writing (articles and columns). My first little column is due to be published in less than a month. It’s gonna be small and it’ll probably be read by about 40 people, but I’m very excited! He he.

Thanks John - keep up the works. This is one of the more original and interesting sites out there.

OK I confess. Arrived here via Keri’s clamhead.com. That would mean it’s her fault right? The name caught me and I been blunkering off and on ever since. Great site! You’ve encouranged me look back through all my sketch books.

Another blurker, also just discovered blogs recently and use them to waste time at work and amuse myself. Like the tone of this site and the art. Oooh, pretty pictures!

Kerry says:

I’m very blurky as well. First discovered your site when I googled Return to Oz’s Wheelies because they scared the crap out of me as well. I’ve been a loyal blurker ever since.

Feaverish says:

I guess I’m a lurker. I read your feed, but I usually visit the site when you post a new entry. Also, I just started reading a couple of weeks ago with the Harrison Ford Haiku entry (which my English teacher girlfriend is thinking of using in her class, by the way).

11-30-04 · 2:43 pm

Fargoboy says:

Blurking: Blog Lurking?

Guilty.

I use my RSS reader as mostly just notification of a new entry though, and read entries on the site itself. The bluey is so inviting, why wouldn’t I.

Unfortunately, I think I get more comment spammers than even blurkers over at fargoboy.com though. So it goes.

11-30-04 · 6:38 pm

Robot Johnny says:

Feaverish, that’s awesome!  I’m proud to be part of your girlfriend’s curriculum.  She’s taking out the fuckwords first, though, right?

Same here.  I read your site by RSS, and I don’t remember if I’ve ever commented.  Keep it up, though.

I’m a part-time Blurker.

I have a number of feeds (news & blogs) come to me via software on my computer, however, there are a number of sites that I just prefer checking out on a daily basis.

Sites like (like robotjohnny.com) are too visually appealing NOT to visit. So, thanks for the good-looking site!
